Why Buy Second Hand ?

So, you're thinking of buying a canal boat ?

Like many others it's possible you've been considering buying second-hand, especially if this is your first boat, but have you considered the advantages and potential long-term savings of buying new ?

Here are just a few of the reasons why you should consider buying a new boat from us.

Cost:

Although there are many cheap boats on the market chances are they will need some work carried out on them to bring them up to scratch. This can be minor work like decorating or replacing some fittings, or it could be major engine repairs or even a replacement - a costly business. Filters, anodes and many other items onboard will need regular attention as will the hull to ensure you have problem free cruising. With a previously owned boat you will need to be sure all this has been done and that everything is up to date.

Not an issue with a new boat - all you need to do is maintain it !

It's also not unusual to find some second hand boats costing more than new ones ! In many cases this is due to the original costs charged by more expensive builders or the addition of high value extras by the previous owner.

Design:

When you commission your new boat from us you have a direct input into every part of the construction. As we fabricate our own steelwork we can accommodate almost every possible amendment to a basic design, limited only by the canal system itself.

In addition you also get our stylish, up-swept bow profile and our swim design both of which greatly help with handling and fuel consumption. Both features come at no extra cost.

Fixtures and Fittings:

Apart from the hull layout you would also be asked to choose almost every aspect of the interior of the boat. From the tiles to be fitted in the kitchen and bathroom areas, to the colours of curtains and other soft furnishings. You will have a choice of other items such as the type of wood used to line the boat, the appliances for the kitchen and more technical aspects such as engine type and the type of heating and electrical system. All of which will allow you to have a boat that fully meets all your needs.

Obviously to make these changes to an existing boat would be very costly and is therefore only a realistic option on a new build.

In Conclusion:

As with buying a new car or house nothing beats knowing you are the first owner and this is just as true when thinking about a boat. Buying new will provide you with a boat that truly meets your needs and includes everything to make your holidays or life afloat as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Add these points to the fact that in some cases our boats are cheaper then a second-hand boat, with our prices starting at £1200 per foot, it makes arranging a visit to see us a very worthwhile exercise. We have always got boats in various stages of construction so call and see us and have a look at the boats we build and the quality you can expect.

Do this before you buy your second-hand boat.

p.s, Don't wait for a second-hand Maesbury boat to come on the market as owners don't tend to change once they own one of our boats !
